Farcoderm is a private testing laboratory founded in 2003 to assist the industry in the development of the scientific evaluation of cosmetic products, food supplements, medical devices, and raw materials. The safety and efficacy evaluation relies on both in vitro and in vivo (on humans) tests, carried out in compliance with the most updated and regulatory accepted techniques. Since 2008 Farcoderm started its internationalization process and 4 new subsidiaries (Farcoderm Swiss, Farcoderm France, Farcoderm Iberica, and Farcoderm Central Europe) were founded all over Europe to meet side-by-side the local needs of different markets. The need to expand its testing capacity all over the European market was arisen from the awareness that the local approach is not sufficient to satisfy the needs of the worldwide fragmentized and fast-growing market. In the last 10 years Farcoderm has built an effective net work of top-qualified investigators that is worldwide recognized.
The role of Farcoderm France in the project is the development of an in vitro method to evaluate skin sensitization. From BIORICE project, Farcoderm expects an enhancement of its know-how in understanding the mechanism underlying skin sensitization leading to the integration between its knowledge, on the effect of chemicals/products on in vivo models (human and animal data), and the complexity of the biological events typical of the skin sensitization response. The developed new in vitro method will be free of ethical concerns and will allow Farcoderm to test the occurrence of skin sensitization and the potency of chemicals/products to induce skin sensitization permitting to better characterize the hazard of chemicals and products.
